Purple Patch is a creative partner of the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. As a partner we are part of a growing infrastructure of community organisations who are working with the local NHS to provide creative projects for people who use Trust services. We deliver weekly projects which people with learning disabilities who have an additional mental health need can be referred to by the trust and we also work alongside the trust to develop accessible action research about their innovative ‘Recovery College’ model works for people with learning disabilities
Feel Good – Health Education Programme
We’ve been funded by Leeds South and East CCG to develop and pilot a 6 week long education programme for people with learning disabilities. The programme will use a creative and interactive approach to cover topics such as weight management, healthy eating, improving mental health and attending annual health checks. Running alongside the education programme we’ll also deliver accredited training to staff who support people accessing healthcare. The pilot will be independently evaluated by academics from the School of Healthcare, University of Leeds.
"Through my independent evaluation, it is clear that the approaches used by Purple Patch Arts to deliver public health education is having a positive impact on the lives of people with a learning disability. Policy makers, commissioners and public health practitioners can learn so much about delivering public health initiatives to both people with learning disabilities and the general public by using the Purple Patch approach"
